James E. McGrath Obituary – 8/28/2018


James E. McGrath, age 81, of Montrose, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2018, at The Garden House Assisted Living in Winsted.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday, Sept. 4 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Watertown. There will be visitation from 9 to 11 a.m. at the church, prior to Mass. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Arrangements are with the Iten’s Watertown Funeral Home.

James was born Oct. 23, 1936, on the family farm in Woodland Township, to Walter and Margaret (Murphy) McGrath.

He farmed, first in the dairy industry and then as an organic grower, the McGrath farmstead in Woodland Township, which has been in existence since 1869.

Jim served in the US National Guard Reserves, and was a member of the Watertown American Legion Eugene Earley Post 121.

He enjoyed going to tractor pulls, and socializing at Hollywood Sports Complex.

Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Teresa; parents Walter and Margaret; and a sister, Marylou Nevels.

He is survived by his sister, Kathleen (Glenn) Johnson; many nieces and nephews; and friends.
