Peter J. Poetz, age 76, of Winsted, passed away Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018, at St. Mary’s Care Center in Winsted.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, Nov, 5 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with Father Michael Doyle as the celebrant. Interment with military rites will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery.

There will be a time of gathering at the church Monday, Nov. 5, beginning at 9 a.m.

Urn bearer will be Kaisha Hagen. Honorary urn bearers will be Peter’s grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Pete’s family, who will make a donation in his name to a charitable cause.

Peter was born Aug. 11, 1942, in Shakopee, the son of Alphonse and Mary (Green) Poetz.

He enjoyed fishing and hunting, loved his dog, Buster; and enjoyed watching baseball, and collecting 45s for his jukebox. He loved Civil War history.

Peter joined the US Naval Force in 1959, serving aboard the USS Hancock through 1965.

Pete worked as a bricklayer in his early years, while residing in Arizona. Later, he became a barber and worked in north Minneapolis. Peter later had a shop in Howard Lake, and retired after 19 years in Howard Lake.

He was joined in holy marriage to “Nellie” (Ittel) Lachermeier May 21, 1990.

Peter is survived by his loving wife, Nellie; step-children Lisa Hagen, Lonnie Lachermeier, Angela (Ken Kutz) Lachermeier, and Lanny Lachermeier; a daughter, Carla Rohrer; a son, Peter Poetz II; 12 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brothers Lee Poetz, Larry (Kathleen) Poetz, and Clifford Poetz; brothers-in-law; sisters-in-law; nieces, nephews; and cousins; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and by a sister, Mary Lou Mulroy.
