Hubert Schermann, 81

Hubert P. Schermann, age 81, of Silver Lake, passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2018, at Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis.

A concelebrated memorial Mass for Hubert Schermann will take place Friday, Aug. 24 at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, with Father Mark Mallak as the celebrant, and Father Tony Stubeda and Father Paul Schumacher as concelebrants.

There was visitation Thursday, Aug. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Maresh Funeral Home in Silver Lake, with a rosary recited at 5 p.m., and parish prayers at 6 p.m.

There will be further visitation Friday at the church, one hour prior to Mass.

Alice Nowak will be the organist for the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Hubert was born Jan. 15, 1937, in Winsted, the son of Frank and Anna (Stifter) Schermann.

He honorably served his country in the Army National Guard.

Hubert was joined in holy marriage with Margaret Mallak Aug. 22, 1959, at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with four children.

Following their marriage, Hubert and Margaret moved their family to a small hobby farm south of Silver Lake and lived there many years.

Hubert worked as a mechanic at Green Giant in Glencoe, and owned and operated Schermann Awnings and Door Hoods for many years.

He was a faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake. Hubert also belonged to American Legion Post #141, Silver Lake Lions Club, The Catholic Aid, The Degree of Honor, and the Silver Lake Senior Club.

Hubert truly loved playing cards.

He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret; daughters Dianna Olson, Debra Jaqua, and Pamela (Patrick) Squires; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother, Marcella Pokornowski, Norbert (Marlene) Schermann and Laura Kaczmarek; other relatives; and many friends.

Hubert was preceded in death by a son, Ronald Schermann, April 8, 2012; his parents; a brother, Donald; and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Sylvester and Barbara Mallak.
