Gilmore Schrupp, 86

Gilmore “Gil” A. Schrupp, age 86, of Winsted, passed away Sunday, Sept. 23, 2018, surrounded by his family at home, after a brief battle with cancer.

He was born Jan. 17, 1932, to George and Dorthea “Emma” (Brueggemeier), in rural Benton Township, on the family farm.

Gil grew up and attended school in Norwood Young America, and graduated from Central High School with the class of 1949.

After high school, he enlisted and proudly served in the Army.

Following his military service, Gil was united in marriage to Lois Florence Schumann June 11, 1955, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake. The couple resided in the Twin Cities while Gil worked as a carpenter, and then, in 1960, he and Lois purchased a dairy farm in Howard Lake. Together, they happily raised two daughters.

Gil also served on the AMPI Creamery Board and church councils. He was a 50-plus-year member of the American Legion, and a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Gil will be deeply missed by his children, Patty (Ron) Krohn, and Gail (Ron) Arndt; grandchildren Kris (Matt) Linkert, Kari (Richard) Arimond, and Patrick Arndt; step great-grandchildren Andrew and Lydia Linkert; brother Glen (Laverne) Schrupp; sister-in-law Ruth Schrupp; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois, in 2017; parents; brother, George; and sister, Viola.

The funeral service took place Thursday, Sept. 27 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Howard Lake, followed by interment at Howard Lake Cemetery.

There was visitation Wednesday, Sept. 26 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. Visitation continued Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service at the church.
