Stephen James Achterkirch, age 71, of Glencoe, passed away Saturday, Nov. 9, 2019, at his home.
There will be a short graveside service Saturday, Nov. 23 at 11 a.m. at the Spencer Cemetery in Aitkin, MN, followed by a celebratory lunch at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Aitkin.
Stephen was born May 1, 1948, in Duluth, to Herbert and Ruth (Christensen) Achterkirch.
He grew up in Cokato, and graduated from Cokato High School in 1966. Following high school, Stephen attended St. Cloud State University.
After stints in construction, Steve began working for American Breeders Service (ABS) and was lucky enough to retire in his mid-50s.
His pastimes included local theater, softball, hunting, weight training, reading non-fiction, and darts. But, the majority of his time was spent on the lakes fishing with friends and family.
Stephen is survived by his brother, Peter (Lauren) Achterkirch of Wadena; nieces Lisa Uselman (Pat Delcourt) of Andover, and Allison Achterkirch (Kurt Johnson) of New Hope; three great nephews: Matthew, Zachary, and Novi; two great nieces: Mikaela and Zayda; and one great-great nephew, Jaxson.
