Virgil Amundson Obituary – 10/9/2019


Virgil Lyle Amundson, age 88, of Dawson, MN, formerly of Delano, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2019, at Johnson Memorial Care Center in Dawson.

Private services will take place at a later date. Arrangements are with Hanson & Dahl Funeral Home in Dawson.

Virgil Lyle Amundson was born in Dawson, the son of Carl and Rhoda (Quenemoen) Amundson.

In high school, he was a standout athlete on the football team and graduated from Dawson High School in 1949.

As a young man, Virgil worked for a time for former governor Theodore Christianson.

After serving in the Army, he became an entrepreneur. Virgil and his wife moved to Delano and owned several businesses in the Delano area, including the Delano Theater, Red Owl Store, and the Delano Manor nursing home. They were also responsible for the restoration of the Delano Granite Works building before retiring to Dawson.

Virgil was a lifetime member of local VFW post 5247, and also a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Dawson.

He will be greatly missed.

Virgil is survived by his children: James (Lizbeth) Amundson, Brian Amundson, Jane (John) Hayes, Janet (Russell) Morkrid, Mark Amundson, and Robert (Terri) Amundson; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Arlys (nee Larson); son, Jeffery; parents Carl and Rhoda (nee Quenemoen) Amundson; and sister Lorraine (Willard) Swain.
