Arthur “Art” Balthaser Fries, age 87, of Delano, passed away Saturday, Oct. 12, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Center in Waconia.
There will be a memorial service Saturday, Oct. 26 at 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Maple Plain, with a gathering of family and friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service. Private family inurnment at a later date.
Arrangements are with the Iten Funeral Home of Delano.
Arthur was born Jan. 5, 1932, in Arlington, MN, to George and Annie (Studuman) Fries. He grew up in Henderson, the fourth youngest of 16 children in his family.
Art served in the US Marines from Oct. 24, 1952, to Jan. 29, 1955, during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged and became a lifetime member of the American Legion in Delano.
Art was united in marriage to Shirley Kahle Jan. 26, 1954, in Henderson. They raised two sons, Ronnie and Garry.
Art lived his life to his fullest potential. He enjoyed farming, camping, hunting, fishing, and helping others any chance he got. He always had a smile on his face, never complained, and always had a special place in his heart for anyone.
Art was preceded in death by his son, Ronnie; his parents; and many brothers, sisters and friends.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley; son Garry (Jeannie) Fries; granddaughters Tori Fries and Kayla (Ed) Swanson; great-grandchildren Roman and Ava Swanson; sister Alice Gruhot; brother Gil (Jeanie) Fries; and many nieces and nephews.
