Roland H. Isaacson, 83

Roland Harold Isaacson, age 83, of Cedar Rapids, IA, formerly of Kingston, passed away Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at Hiawatha Care Center, Hiawatha, IA.

Roland was born Nov. 3, 1935, at home in rural Kingston, the son of Harold Albin and Helmi Estella (Sako) Isaacson. He was raised on a dairy farm near Kingston, and attended a country school for eight grades; then graduated from Kimball High School.

After farming with his father, his ag teacher from school came out to their farm to encourage Roland to attend the University of Minnesota, where he graduated with an agriculture and mechanical engineering degree.

After working at Honeywell for eight years, and meeting and marrying his wife, Mary, he decided to become self-employed.

Roland loved adventure, including the adventure of investing in business.

He enjoyed many activities, including golf, skiing, hiking, volleyball, baseball, coaching, and playing family games.

After raising their children, Roland and Mary spent 17 winters in Florida, where they met many new friends.

When Roland was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, he decided he wanted to live in Cedar Rapids, IA.

Following the Lord was very important to Roland, and he attended and was an active member of Plymouth Lutheran Church in Minnesota, and then Cedar Valley Church in Cedar Rapids.

Roland enjoyed all kinds of people. He especially loved being a father and grandfather. It was very important to him that his children and grandchildren follow Jesus Christ.

Roland will be greatly missed.

He is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife, Mary Isaacson of Cedar Rapids; his three children, Janelle (Jeff) Everly, Gregory (Emily) Isaacson, and Lisa (Cody) McIntyre; eight grandchildren, Joshua and Ryan Everly, Hannah, Ellie, Zachary, and Drew Isaacson, and Alex and Andria McIntyre; two sisters, Karen (Jon) Lundby and Kathleen (Wayne) Rapley; and many nieces and nephews.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services took place Saturday, March 23 at 11 a.m. at Cedar Valley Bible Church in Cedar Rapids. Arrangements in Iowa were in the care of Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Marion.

A funeral service also took place Monday, March 25 at Kingston Apostolic Lutheran Church in Kingston, with arrangements in Minnesota under the care of Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel. Interment will take place at Kingston Cemetery in Kingston at a later date.
