William (Bill) Jones Obituary – 6/12/2019

William (Bill) J. Jones, age 81, of Waverly, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2019.

A Celebration of Bill’s Life will take place Thursday, June 27 from 5 to 8 p.m., with a memory celebration at 7 p.m. at the Waverly Knights of Columbus Hall in Waverly.

There will be a private family burial at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or a charity of your choice.

William was born June 29, 1937, in Lizton, IN, the fourth child of Marvin (William) and Nellie V. Jones. He grew up on a farm with siblings Eddie, Betty, Jane, Rosemary, Sharon, Debbie and Cathy.

Bill graduated in 1955, from Fillmore High School.

He joined the United States Air Force and served his country from 1955 to 1959.

It was while he was stationed in Minot, ND that he met his future wife, Sharon. They had four children, Cari, Sandy, Patti and Cory.

The family moved to Fort Wayne, IN, and spent many wonderful years there. Bill was then transferred to Minnesota in 1972, and that is when life in Waverly began.

Bill worked for Sterner Lighting in Winsted, and retired in 2001.

If you knew Bill, then you knew he was a fisherman. He could out-catch most people and had a great ability to teach family, friends, and children to gain the passion that he had for the sport.

Bill also had a great sense of humor that you had to be on the lookout for at all times. He was known as “The Scout” because he could find anything when you needed him to be on the lookout.

Bill was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and a friend to many.

He loved deer hunting, making sausage, canning beef and jelly, playing the game of 500, making noodles, traveling, but mostly, fishing!

He was preceded in death by his parents; in-laws Marvin and Nellie Jones, and Lewis and Tena Helland; sister Betty Arnold; and brothers-in-law Manford Helland and Dick Schroeder.

Bill is survived by his wife, Sharon; children Cari and John Junkers of Richfield, Sandy and Chris Roose of Tampa, FL, Patti and Brian Barth of Waverly, and Cory and Cathy Jones of Rockford; along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren Jacob Barth (Henri and Will), Kelly Reich, special friend Adam Kleve, and Micah, Noah, Isaiah and Jonah Reich, Dustin Roose (Kinsley), Andy and Sarah Jones, and Jack Jones.

He is also survived by his siblings, Eddie Jones, Jane and Bill Sibbitt, Rosemary Woods, Sharon Jones, Debbie and Pete Alamo, and Cathy and Terry Clodfelter; his in-laws Danny Arnold, Coral and Fred Whisenand, and Noreen Schroeder; and many, many nieces, nephews, and friends.
