Ronald Jorgensen, 71

Ronald “Ronnie” Dale Jorgensen, age 71, of Winsted, passed away Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

He was born June 5, 1948, in Watertown, the son of DeVern and Merline (Guetzkow) Jorgensen; and grew up in Oster. Ronnie was baptized at his home, and confirmed as a youth May 21, 1961, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted by the Rev. E.F. Schroeder. His confirmation memory verse was Daniel 12:3: “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”

Ronnie graduated from Watertown High School in 1966.

He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard for six years.

Ron was also very involved in his community. He served on the Winsted Fire Department for 26 years; was a member of American Legion Post 407 in Winsted, and a member of the Winsted Lions Club. He enjoyed helping with the Winsted Summer Festival Fun Run/Walk, and was always available to lend a helping hand wherever needed in Winsted.

Ronnie’s first marriage to Donna Gierke in 1968, was blessed with three children; Joe, Jennifer, and Dan. He was united in marriage to Joyce Hertzog April 12, 1980, and was blessed with one additional son, Mike.

During his working career, Ronnie worked at Millerbernd in Winsted, Poly Foam in Lester Prairie, and the Blue Note in Winsted. After retiring, he worked part time for Keaveny Drug in Winsted.

Ronnie will be remembered for his outgoing personality and sense of humor. He loved spending time hunting, and checking out where the next fishing hot spot was. He especially treasured the time he spent with family and friends, and would show up an hour early to any family event.

Ronnie is survived by his son, Joe and wife Tammy Jorgensen of Dassel; daughter Jennifer and husband Chad Tinnes of North English, IA; son Dan and wife Jaime Jorgensen of Lakeville; and son Mike Jorgensen of Winsted; brother Gary and wife Lori Jorgensen of Winchester, KY; sister Bonnie and husband Jerry Schultz of Waverly; and sister Gayle and husband Mark Williams of Norwood Young America; sister-in-law Gloria Tonak of Winsted; brother-in-law Joe and wife Brie of Lakeville; and sister-in-law Rosemary and husband Kevin Eiden of Glencoe.

Ronnie is further survived by his grandchildren; Joseph Rath and wife Kelly, Adam Jorgensen and wife Kimberly, Derrick Thompson, Jacob Plath, Alexandra Stutzman and husband Alexander, Isaiah Jorgensen, Kaitlyn Wurzberger and husband Dylan, Casey Tinnes, Shawni Tinnes, Lucy Jorgensen, and a future grandson; 10 great-grandchildren; uncle and aunt Glen and Diane Jorgensen, uncle Norbert Knott; other relatives; and many dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce; his parents, DeVern and Merline Jorgensen; and by a brother-in-law, Owen Tonak.

A Celebration of Ronnie’s life took place Thursday, Aug. 8 at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winsted with the Rev. Dave Hormann officiating. There was visitation at the church from 9 to 11 a.m. Private interment took place at Nylunda Cemetery, Howard Lake.

Military honors were provided by Winsted American Legion Post 407.

Honorary urn bearers were Ronnie’s godchildren, Leah Mallak, Christopher Jorgensen, and Kyle Heuer.
