David was born July 1, 1955, in Duluth, the son of William and Eleanor (Wistrom) Nace. He grew up in Duluth, and graduated from Denfeld High School in 1974.
David earned his bachelor’s degree in teaching from University of Wisconsin-Superior. He had also studied at Hamline University.
David was united in marriage with Margaret Hogan Aug. 11, 1979, at St. Mary’s Star Of The Sea Catholic Church in Duluth. This union of 39 years was blessed with two children, Kevin and Jenna.
David’s teaching career included Melrose, MN and Medford, WI, prior to beginning his tenure with the Watertown-Mayer High School in 1986. He began coaching swimming in high school, and continued to coach swimming teams throughout his teaching career.
David had been awarded Coach of the Year by the Minnesota State High School League, and had received much recognition for his dedication to students over his career. His passion for teaching youth was un-measurable, and he considered it never to be work.
After retiring in 2016, David continued to volunteer at the school.
He enjoyed gardening, growing a variety of hostas, and small woodworking projects, especially making cardinals that he would share with others.
David will be remembered for his charismatic, caring, and big-hearted personality, and as someone who was always there for support for whomever needed it.
