Elsie Elizabeth Olson, age 97, of Lake George, formerly of Cokato, died Thursday, Dec. 19, 2019, at GlenOaks Care Center in New London.
She was born July 3, 1922, in French Lake Township, Wright County, the daughter of Hjalmer and Greta (Tormanen) Leukuma. Elsie grew up on the family farm near Cokato, and attended country grade school.
Elsie was united in marriage to Carl Olson June 28, 1947, in Knapp. They made their home in Minneapolis until moving to Park Rapids in 1953, and returning to Minneapolis in 1956.
Elsie worked for Leaf Brothers Linen and Uniform Supplier for 34 years, before retiring in 1994.
In their retirement, Elsie and Carl moved to Lake George. They were able to share in 62 years of marriage before Carl’s death April 23, 2010.
Elsie was able to live in her home until she was 95, just recently moving to New London to be closer to family.
She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lake George, where she served in church circle.
She enjoyed cooking, travel, embroidery, bowling and visiting with family and friends. Elsie is remembered for always having an open door with a fresh pot of coffee.
Elsie is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Wilson of Belgrade, and Debra Tyler of Ramona, CA; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings Carol Albers, Janet Gustafson, and Ray Leukuma.
In addition to her husband, Carl, she was preceded in death by 13 siblings.
Funeral services took place Monday, Dec. 23 at 10 a.m. at Crow River Lutheran Church in rural Belgrade, with visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment was at Lake George Cemetery in Lake George.
Arrangements were with the Johnson Funeral Home in Belgrade.
