Myrna Louise Johnson Pike, age 89, of California and Minnesota, passed away peacefully Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019.
A celebration of life ceremony with family and friends will take place in Minnesota in the coming months.
Myrna was born Feb. 6, 1930, in Cokato; and graduated from Dassel High School in 1948.
She continued her education at the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in journalism in 1952.
Myrna married Douglas Pike at Mt. Fuji, Japan, in September 1954.
Her husband was with the US State Department and together, they spent many years living abroad, including in Japan, Hong Kong, Vietnam, and Taiwan; and traveled throughout the world.
Myrna was a writer and editor, working as a reporter in North Dakota and Japan, editing her husband’s books, and serving as assistant editor of Asian Survey, an academic journal of Asian studies published by the University of California Press.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Douglas Pike; her parents, Olaf (Wallie) and Sigrid Johnson; and her sister, Carolyn Mulvihill.
Myrna is survived by her children: Andrew Pike, Victoria Pike Bond (Paul Bond), and Ethan Pike (Nancy Leou); grandchildren Olivia and Emma Leou Pike; sister Constance Johnson; niece Kristin Southey and her family; nephew Thomas J. Mulvihill and his family; and many dear family members and friends.
