Mauritz Harry Russell, age 81, of Cokato, died Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at the Cokato Manor.
Mauritz Harry Russell, the son of Mauritz and Mable (Tiller) Russell, was born Dec. 19, 1937, in Cokato. He was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith, and was a member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel at the time of his death.
Harry attended Beaver Dam Country School, before attending and graduating from Cokato High School in 1956.
He was inducted into the United States Army May 9, 1959; and served his country until May 9, 1965, in a tank regiment.
Harry and his brother farmed the family land for several years. He had also been employed for numerous years during canning season at Faribault Foods in Cokato.
He enjoyed spending time tinkering on the farm tractors, bird watching, gardening, and spending time with his flowers and nature. He had been an avid fisherman and had enjoyed spending time raccoon hunting. He also loved to spend time with his family for holidays and gatherings.
Harry will be missed deeply by his family and friends.
He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Olson of Coon Rapids; and several nieces, a nephew, great nieces, great nephews, and other relatives.
Harry was preceded in death by his parents, Mauritz and Mable Russell; three brothers: James Russell, Richard Russell, and Thomas Russell; sister-in-law, Gloria Russell; and brother-in-law, Reuben J. Olson.
A funeral service took place Monday, July 8 at 11 a.m. at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel with the Rev. Laurie O’Shea officiating. Interment was at the Dassel Community Cemetery.
There was visitation Sunday, July 7 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel, and one hour prior to the service Monday at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel handled the arrangements.
