Frances Dena Santema, age 87, of Cokato, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2019, at the Cokato Manor.
There will be a memorial service Tuesday, May 14 at 11 a.m. at Elim Mission Church of Cokato, with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery of Cokato.

Frances was born June 20, 1931, to Henry and Minnie (Otten) Strating in the village of Pease in Mille Lacs County, MN. She was baptized as an infant and in 1950, became a member of the Pease Christian Reform Church.
Fran attended grade school in district 6, and graduated from the Milaca High School in 1949.
She worked as a telephone operator until her marriage to Sidney Santema in December 1951. The couple made their home in Daleville, AL; Milaca, Day, Braham, and Cokato, MN.
Fran did day care in her home until her children went to school. She then worked as a retail clerk.
In 1973, she opened her own gift shop in Cokato, and sold out in 1983.
Fran was a member of the Elim Mission Church in Cokato, was active in Dorcas, and enjoyed quilting.
She is survived by her children; Michael (Teri) of Inver Grove Heights, Sandra (John) Henz of Sauk Rapids, and Steven (Merla) of Cokato; grandsons Tim and Patrick; step grandsons Brett and Jon; and a sister, Darlene Johnson of Eden Prairie.
Frances was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Minnie; husband Sidney, brothers Alvin Strating, and Garret Starting; and sisters Deane Drake and Alice Prince.
