Kenneth Schneider, 68

Kenneth Lee Schneider, age 68, of New Germany, passed away Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis.

There will be a gathering of family and friends Friday, May 3 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Home in Waconia. Graveside service with Military Honors will take place Monday, May 6 at 10 a.m. at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.

Kenneth was born Feb, 9, 1951, in Tyler, the son of Melvin and Velva (Bloom) Schneider. He attended the Watertown High School.

Ken enlisted in the United States Army March 26, 1970. He served his country, earning the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Stars, National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal and the Aircraft Crewman Badge. Ken reached the rank of SP5, E5.

After his honorable discharge, Ken returned home and shortly after, was united in marriage with Joan Fritzke, Dec. 8, 1972. This union was blessed with two children, Teri and Josh; and three grandchildren.

Ken spent almost 40 years as a machinist at Nilfisk Advance in Plymouth. In his free time, he enjoyed working on cars and attending auto races. For many seasons he helped on a pit crew.

Upon his retirement, Ken purchased the truck he always wanted, a Ford Lariat. He spent time working in his woodshop, visiting with neighbors, staying involved in his grandchildren’s activities and spoiling his beloved dog, Brandy.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Velva Schneider; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Herbert and Merva Fritzke; and brother-in-law Bob Fritzke.

He is survived by his loving family: wife Joan Schneider of New Germany; daughter Teri Schneider and her partner, Jared Ewert of Waverly, and their children, Jaxon and Aubrey Ewert; and son Josh Schneider of New Germany and his son, Brady Driggins.

Ken is further survived by his sister, Penny Schmakel and her husband, Leroy of Waconia; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ronald and Jackie Fritzke of Watertown, Lowell and Joanne Fritzke of Chanhassen, Frank and Nancy Fritzke of Watertown, Tom and Evie Fritzke of Reedsville, WI, Leon and Joan Fritzke, John and Gina Fritzke, and Paul Fritzke, all of Watertown; special aunt, Carol Snyder of Watertown; special cousins, Theresa and John Schuette, and Brenda and Scott Severson; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many dear friends.
