Glenard J. Schrupp, 83

Glenard John Schrupp, age 83, of Norwood Young America, passed away Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at his residence.

He was born June 23, 1935, in Benton Township of Carver County, the son of George and Dorthea “Emma” (Brueggemeier) Schrupp. Glenard was baptized July 7, 1935, at Zion Lutheran Church in Benton Township; and confirmed his faith April 10, 1949, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America.

Glenard attended St. John’s Lutheran School and Central High School, where he was a member of the graduating class of 1953.

He enlisted in the United States Navy March 21, 1956, where he served until his honorable discharge Nov. 1, 1957.

Glenard was united in marriage with LaVerne D. McGowen June 24, 1960, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America. This union of 58 years was blessed with children, Bradley and Laurie.

After the military, Glenard had worked in masonry, mostly in the Twin Cities area. In 1965, he purchased the Schrupp family farm, where he raised dairy cattle and cash cropped the land. He also continued in masonry work for 50 years, operating Glenard Schrupp Masonry and later employed by other contractors.

He was a devoted member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, where he had served as head usher, and on the St. John’s Lutheran School Board.

Glenard was an avid sports fan. He excelled at high school sports and had played town team baseball for the Norwood Indians. He loved to watch a game, whether on television or sitting in the stands. He especially enjoyed the opportunity to watch his children and grandchildren play.

He also liked playing cards, fishing, and hunting.

Glenard cherished time spent with his family. He’ll be remembered for being strong-willed, supportive, and for his work ethic.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Emma Schrupp; sister Viola Schrupp; and brothers and sister-in-law George Schrupp, Gilmore, and Lois Schrupp.

Glenard is survived by his loving family: wife LaVerne Schrupp of Norwood Young America; son and daughter-in-law Bradley and Beverly Schrupp of Norwood Young America; daughter and son-in-law Laurie and Joel Noennig of Norwood Young America; grandchildren Thea Stodola and her husband, Ross of Monticello, Zachary Schrupp and his special friend, Hallie Hewitt of Norwood Young America, Blake Noennig and his wife, Jenny of Gainesville, FL, Malea Becker and her husband, Logan of Waconia, Grant Noennig of Victoria, and Baden Noennig of Norwood Young America; and great-grandchildren Piper, Finley, Porter and Holden Stodola, Brooks Noennig, and Bergen Becker.

He is further survived by sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Ruth Schrupp of Norwood Young America, Lorraine Boelke of Cologne, Betty McGowen of Prior Lake, Shirley Leiding of Norwood Young America, and LeRoy and Bev McGowen of Jordan; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Glenard’s funeral service took place Monday, April 29 at 10 a.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Norwood Young America, with the Rev. Joshua Bernau officiating. There was visitation at the church from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers were Thea Stodola, Zachary Schrupp, Blake Noennig, Malea Becker, Grant Noennig, and Baden Noennig.
