Daniel J. Tschimperle, 84

Daniel Joseph Tschimperle, age 84, of Silver Lake, passed away peacefully with his children by his side, Monday, Dec. 9, 2019, at GlenFields of Glencoe.

He was born Feb. 6, 1935, in Hopkins, the son of Oliver and Lydia (Hakel) Tschimperle.

Dan graduated from Hopkins High School, class of 1953; and was a member of the 1952 and 1953 state basketball championship teams.

He honorably served his country in the United States Army

Dan later graduated from St. Cloud State University with a master’s degree in education.

Daniel was joined in holy marriage with Colleen F. McNally June 6, 1959, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hopkins. The couple made their home in Silver Lake. God blessed their marriage with two children, Scott and Sandy.

Daniel was the athletic director at Silver Lake High School, assistant football coach with his long-time friend, head coach Buz Rumrill; coached boys’ and girls’ basketball, and taught driver’s education, social studies, and phy. ed. at Silver Lake High School for 34 years.

He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, hunting, golfing, and gardening.

Following his retirement, Dan and Colleen wintered in Weslaco, TX, with friends and made many fond memories.

Dan was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, and belonged to the Silver Lake Lions Club.

He is survived by his loving children: Scott Tschimperle of Brownton, and Sandy (Roger) Posusta of Silver Lake; his grandchildren, Jayden Tschimperle and special friend Carly, Madison Tschimperle, Rachael (Posusta) and husband Charlie Kern, and Trevor Posusta; a twin brother: David (JoAnn) Tschimperle of Hopkins; nieces and nephews; and many wonderful friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Colleen, June 23, 2007; his parents; a brother, Ronald Tschimperle; and by his parents- in-law Lee and Phoebe McNally.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Silver Lake, with Father Tony Stubeda as the celebrant. Alice Nowak was the organist for the Mass. Inurnment with military rites followed at Holy Family Cemetery.

There was a time of gathering Tuesday, Dec. 17, beginning at 9 a.m., prior to the Mass.
