Herbert A. Wehle Obituary – 9/12/2019


Herbert A. Wehle, age 91, of St. Bonifacius, passed away Thursday, Sept. 12, 2019, at the Good Samaritan Society in Howard Lake.

He was born Oct. 13, 1927, in Watertown Township, the son of Anton and Rose (Logelin) Wehle. He was baptized and confirmed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

Herb grew up on a farm in rural Watertown.

He served his country in the Korean War, where he earned two Bronze Stars as a corporal.

Returning to the states, Herb traveled to California, where he worked and purchased a Harley, which he brought back to Minnesota. He worked at Lyman Lumber and rode his Harley to the Hart Café in Wayzata, where he met the love of his life and wife of 65 years, Anna.

Herbert was united in marriage to Anna Marketon Jan. 5, 1954, at St. Bartholomew’s Catholic Church in Wayzata. This union was blessed with three children; Dennis, Linda and Diane.

The couple made their home in St. Bonifacius for 64 years.

Herb loved camping, fishing, gardening, biking with his family, and working in his bicycle shop. Herb and Anna had spent 30 years as snowbirds at Paradise Park in Arizona.

He was a proud veteran and an active member of the American Legion Post in St. Bonifacius.

Herbert was preceded in death by his parents, Anton and Rose Wehle; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Clarence ‘Dutch” Hentges, Ralph (Dorothy) Bauman, Gladys Broll, George (Jean) Marketon, Ron Russ, LeRoy Marketon, Tony Marketon, Paulette Marketon, and Albert Czanstkowski.

He is survived by his loving family: wife Anna; children Dennis (Debra) Wehle of Delano, Linda (Robert) Moskalik of Blaine, and Diane (Robert) Weiland of Pillager; grandchildren Melissa Bleichner, Jesse (Jessica) Bleichner, Jeremy Weiland and fiancée Nash Vesely, Anna Weiland, Kristina Moskalik, Gregory (Jill) Moskalik, Jeffrey Moskalik and fiancée Mariah Anderson, and Timothy Moskalik and fiancée Leah; and great-grandchildren Lily, Ambrosia, Azaelea and Keenen Bleichner, Nolan Scott, and Arya Madzima.

Herb is further survived by his brother, Ralph (Pat) Wehle of St. Bonifacius; sister Mae Hentges of St. Bonifacius; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Frances Czanstkowski of Delano, Joe (Agnes) Marketon of Howard Lake, Irene Russ of Crystal, Joan (Jeff) Johnson of Oakdale, Marie (Herb) Kapsner of Hastings, Donald Marketon of Howard Lake, and Clarence (Rena) Marketon of Nevis; nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.

Mass of Christian Burial took place Tuesday, Sept. 17 at 11 a.m. at St. Boniface Catholic Church in St. Bonifacius with Father Peter Hughes as celebrant of the Mass. There was visitation from 9 a.m. until the time of the Mass at the church. Interment followed at St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Melissa Bleichner, Kristina Moskalik, Jesse Bleichner, Greg Moskalik, Jeff Moskalik, Kevin Broeckert, Jeremy Weiland, and Timothy Moskalik.

Tom Weinzierl, Don Marketon, Joe Marketon, and Herb Kaspner were honorary casket bearers.
