Roy G. Bach Obituary – 12/5/2020


Roy Glen Bach, age 70, of Lester Prairie, passed away Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020, at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.

Due to COVID, a service will not take place at this time. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.

Roy was born May 20, 1950, in Gaylord. He was the son of Roy August and Della (Muehlhausen) Bach. Roy was baptized as an infant, and later confirmed in his faith as a youth both at St. Paul’s Evangelical and Reformed Church in Henderson.

Roy received his education in Henderson, graduating with the Henderson High School class of 1968. Roy furthered his education by attending Mankato Vocational School to earn an associate degree in fluid power technology, and continued his education working toward a bachelor of arts degree.

Roy entered active military service in the United States Army National Guard Oct. 27, 1969. He was in active duty training from Feb. 4, 1970, until June 12, 1970, and received an honorable discharge Oct. 26, 1975.

Roy was united in marriage to Jane Birkholz, Oct. 19, 1974, by Pastor David Martens at Evangelical United Church of Christ in Lester Prairie. Roy and Jane made their home in Lester Prairie. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Nathan and Kali. Roy and Jane shared over 46 years of marriage.

Roy worked most of his career in the expandable polystyrene business with PolyFoam, Inc., Plymouth Foam, and Plasti-Fab as a plant manager.

He was an active member of Prairie Community Church in Lester Prairie. As his ministry to the church, Roy served on the church council. He also served the community as a member of the Lester Prairie Volunteer Fire Department for 20-plus years, and was an active member and past president of the Eagle Lake Lake Association.

Roy’s true passion was his family. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and being with family and friends.

Roy loved golfing, traveling, woodworking, grilling, and spending time and working on projects at the cabin. He also loved the outdoors; especially hunting, fishing, downhill skiing, and motorcycling.

Roy is survived by his wife, Jane Bach of Lester Prairie; son, Nathan Bach and his wife, Jill, of Waconia; daughter, Kali Bach and her significant other, John Gilchrist, of Waconia; grandchildren, Mason Bach, Ella Bach, and Jacob Bach; sister, Donna Kenny and her significant other, Ted Yoch, of Edina; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bruce Birkholz and his wife, Ruth, of Burnsville, Donn Birkholz and his wife, Caroline, of Lester Prairie; nieces, Beth Sparacino and her husband, Dave, Rene Rowe and her significant other, Chad; nephews, Trent Birkholz and his wife, Briana, Donavon Birkholz and his wife, Elissa, Dane Birkholz and his wife, Jessica; other relatives, and many friends.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Della Bach; brother, Marlin Bach; brother-in-law, Ed Kenny; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bruce and Carolyn Birkholz; and nephew, Dustin Birkholz.
