Joel E. Bettcher Obituary – 4/26/2020


Joel Ernest Bettcher, age 59, of Lester Prairie, MN, passed away, after a nineteen month battle with cancer, Sunday, April 26, 2020, at his home in Lester Prairie, at the age of 59 years, 8 months and 19 days.

Drive thru visitation will be held Saturday, May 2, 2020, from 10 a.m. to noon at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Lester Prairie.

A private family graveside service will be held at the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery in Lester Prairie with Pastor Eric Nelson officiating.

Casket bearers will be Jacob Bettcher, Jordan Bussler, Pat Feltmann, Pete Feltmann, David Dressler, and Jake Lind. Honorary casket bearers will be David Bettcher, Leah Bettcher, Alexandra Bettcher, and Gabriella Bettcher.

Joel Ernest Bettcher was born Aug. 7, 1960, in Glencoe. He was the son of Lewis and Elizabeth (Gruer) Bettcher. Joel was baptized as an infant on Aug. 21, 1960, by Rev. A. F. Vomhof and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth April 7, 1974, by Rev. A. C. Rasch both at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

Joel received his education in Lester Prairie, graduating with the Lester Prairie High School Class of 1978.

April 16, 1988, Joel was united in marriage to Amy Jo Bussler by Rev. R. C. Maland at Immanuel Lutheran Church in New Auburn, MN. Joel and Amy made their home in Lester Prairie. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Nicholas and Bethany. Joel and Amy shared over 32 years of marriage.

Joel worked at Elkay Manufacturing in Waconia, MN, for 19 years and previously at Ralph’s Mobil in Lester Prairie for 23 years. He was a lifelong member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie.

Joel enjoyed playing pool, bowling, trapshooting, camping, and fishing. He loved to hunt, especially deer, duck, and pheasant. Joel treasured the time spent with his family and friends.

Joel is survived by his wife, Amy Bettcher; son, Nicholas Bettcher; daughter, Bethany Bettcher; father, Lewis “Butch” Bettcher; brothers, James Bettcher and his wife, Brenda, and their children, Leah and David Bettcher, Joshua Bettcher and his wife, Kim, and their children, Jacob, Alexandra and Gabriella Bettcher; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Duane and Elaine Bussler; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Allan Bussler, Byron Bussler and his wife, Sheila, Curt Bussler and his wife, Teresa, Todd Bussler and his fiancée, Sherry Remillard, Bruce Bussler; aunts, Pearl Ortloff and her husband, Kenneth, Brenda Bettcher; uncle, Carl Bettcher and his wife, Marlene; many nephews, nieces, other relatives, and many friends.

Joel was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Bettcher; niece, Natalie Bettcher; grandparents, Ernest and Lillie Gruer, Arthur and Stella Bettcher.
