Bernice F. Breyer, 87

Bernice Frieda (Oltmann) Breyer, age 87, of Glencoe, passed away after a long battle with cancer Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2020, at Friendship Manor Health Care Center in Shakopee.

Bernice Frieda (Oltmann) Breyer was born Aug. 9, 1933, at home in Helen Township, McLeod County, MN. She was the daughter of Elmer and Amanda (Dose) Oltmann.

Bernice was baptized as an infant Aug. 20, 1933, and later confirmed in her faith April 25, 1948, both at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Helen Township. Bernice received her education at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran School in Helen Township.

Bernice was united in marriage to Arden Emil Breyer Aug. 1, 1952, by Pastor A. H. Fellwock at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. They made their home in Howard Lake, before moving to Glencoe. They were blessed with six children, Randall, Cynthia, Michele, Timothy, Michael, and Tricia. Bernice and Arden shared over 54 years of marriage, until Arden passed away Oct. 30, 2006.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Bernice was employed at Young America Corporation in Norwood Young America, Fabritek in Cokato, and Green Giant in Glencoe. She retired in 2006.

Bernice was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe. She was also a member of Pla-mor Dancers and Polka Lovers Klub of America.

Bernice enjoyed reading, sewing, playing cards, flower gardening, dancing, bowling, fishing, camping, and volunteering. She cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

When she needed assistance with her daily care, Bernice became a resident of Friendship Manor Nursing Home in Shakopee.

Bernice is survived by her children, Randall Breyer andwife, Debbie, of Waverly, Michele Miller and husband, Greg, of Plato, Timothy Breyer and wife, Julie, of Glencoe, Michael Breyer and wife, Dianne, of Waconia, Tricia Remus and husband, Chris, of Apple Valley; 14 grandchildren, Melissa (Paul) Lilienthal, Lucas (Megan) Breyer, Ellie (Sean) O’Brien, Jodi (Jason) Kuehn, Caitlin (Austin) Snow, Eric (Kelsey) Randt, Amanda (Nick) Rosenow, Joshua (Jennifer) Breyer, Todd Breyer, Tyler Breyer, Trevor Breyer, Samuel Breyer, Abigail Remus, Sophia Remus; 18 great-grandchildren; sisters, Violet Zebel of Glencoe, Ona Lange and husband, Bob, of Brainerd; brother, Elmer Oltmann Jr. and wife, Beverly, of Lebanon, OH; sister-in-law, Lois Oltmann of Howard Lake; brother-in-law, Ed Marklowitz and special friend, Marlys, of Litchfield; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Amanda Oltmann; husband, Arden; daughter, Cynthia Randt and husband, Randy; siblings, Richard Oltmann, Chester Oltmann, Josephine Marklowitz, Nancy Oltmann, Sylvia Nelson; and brothers-in-law, Clarence Zebel, and Earl Nelson.

Arrangements were by Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe, www.mcbridechapel.com.

A private funeral service took place Monday, Nov. 30, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Glencoe, with interment following at the church cemetery. The service was live-streamed Monday, Nov. 30, on First Evangelical Lutheran Church’s Facebook page. It is also at www.firstglencoe.org.

Pastor Peter Adelsen officiated at the service, with organist Yvonne Schuette. Honorary casket bearers were Bernice’s great-grandchildren and casket bearers were granddaughters, Ellie O’Brien, Melissa Lilienthal, Jodi Kuehn, Caitlin Snow, Amanda Rosenow, Abigail Remus, and Sophia Remus.
