Orlin A. Engelke, 79

Orlin Adolf Engelke, age 79, of Plato, passed away Friday, July 31, 2020, at his home in Plato.

Orlin was born Feb. 23, 1941, in Helen Township, Plato, MN. He was the son of Adolf and Laura (Stockman) Engelke. Orlin was baptized as an infant, and later was confirmed in his faith as a youth April 3, 1955, both at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg. He received his education in Glencoe.

Orlin entered active military service in the United States Army Jan. 9, 1959, and served his country in Germany as a field artillery crewman. He received an honorable discharge Dec. 23, 1960, as a corporal at Fort Hamilton, NY.

Orlin was united in marriage to Judith “Judy” Ann Berry at Emanuel Lutheran Church in Hamburg July 1, 1961. Orlin and Judy made their home in Lester Prairie and Plato. Their marriage was blessed with three children; Jeffrey, Michell, and Thomas. Orlin and Judy shared more than 59 years of marriage.

Orlin was a retired machinist who owned and operated Engelke Machine in Lester Prairie. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato.

Orlin was an outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and racing. He was a family man, and his business was his passion and a huge part of his life. Orlin loved the time spent with his friends and family, especially his grandchildren.

Orlin is survived by his wife: Judith “Judy” Engelke of Plato; children: Jeffrey Engelke and his wife, Roxanne, of Lester Prairie; Michell Pandrea and her husband, Mike, of Ohio; Thomas Engelke and his wife, Linda, of Lester Prairie; grandchildren, Tiffany Hedin and her husband, Chad; Dustin Engelke; Brittany Shimanski and her husband, Ben; Chase Engelke; Bill Long; Jennifer Long; great-grandchildren, Tatum Engelke; Jaden Hedin; Rylan Hedin; Chloe Engelke; Ellie Shimanski; Lilianna Giesen; sister, Bernice Miller; brother, Wallace Engelke; nephews, nieces, other relatives; and many friends.

Orlin was preceded in death by his parents, Adolf and Laura Engelke; sisters, Marlene Winseman, and Evelyn Kruse.

A private family celebration of life took place at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Plato, with a private family interment at a later date. Pastor Tyson Mastin officiated.
