George Carl Groenke, age 78, of Mound passed away peacefully April 15, 2020 in St. Paul, MN.
Preceded in death by parents William and Wilhelmina; sisters Marcille and Lillian; brothers: Willard, Milan, Edward, Ralph, Donald, and Dale. George was born and raised in New Germany, MN.
George was baptized in St. John Lutheran Church in Hollywood, MN June 8, 1941, he was confirmed at St. Marks Lutheran Church in New Germany, MN April 3, 1955.
George graduated from Central High School in Norwood Young America, MN in 1959.He proudly served in the United States Army.
George designed and built a few homes throughout the Twin Cities which he lived in. He moved to Las Vegas, NV in 1988.
He was a blackjack dealer at several different casinos throughout the years.
He enjoyed writing movie scripts and children’s books.
George retired to the Dallas/Fort Worth area in 2006.
In 2008, George was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and returned home to Minnesota in June 2018, to be closer to family.
George is survived by sisters-in-law Joan Groenke and Gloria Groenke. Seven nieces and nephews: Scott and Brenda, Craig and Chris and Wyman Groenke and Steven and Jodi Campbell. Great-nephews and nieces: Jenn, Joshua, Nathaniel, Ashley, Dilan, Halen, Lake Groenke and Tyler and Kali Campbell. Great-great nieces Olivia and Isabelle Juenemann, and family and friends.
Memorials preferred to be given to the Parkinson’s Foundation in George’s name.
Burial will take place at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN
