Corinne Hallquist Obituary – 1/1/2020

Corinne Ellena (Jones) Hallquist, age 93, of Dassel, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2020, at the Good Shepherd Community Nursing Home in Sauk Rapids.

A memorial service will take place Sunday, Jan. 12 at 3 p.m., with visitation beginning two hours prior, at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Dassel, with Pastor Darren Olson officiating.

Corinne was born Aug. 11, 1926, in Minneapolis, to Owen and Irene Jones. She grew up in northeast Minneapolis, attending Edison High School and graduating with the class of 1945.

She went to work at the Cream of Wheat Co., and later worked in downtown Minneapolis for Dain Kalman & Quail, processing stock trade transactions.

Upon retirement, Corinne took a job at the Dassel Elementary School, working in the lunch room, where she cooked and served up meals for several years.

She was united in marriage to Robert E. Hallquist Aug. 21, 1948, in Minneapolis. They moved to Hutchinson for a time, and then to Roseville, where they built a house and raised their four children. In 1973, they bought a farm north of Dassel; and later moved into the town of Dassel.

Corinne loved to bake, especially her caramel rolls on a Saturday morning, and dinner buns on special occasions.

She also loved serving Jesus by serving in her church, not so much in the forefront of projects, but rather in the background. She served on the kitchen committee for many years, making sure it was in top order; and especially enjoyed taking care of children Tuesday mornings during the young women’s Bible study.

Corinne was a walker, often seen around town forging ahead with her walking stick, right up to her last summer of life.

She is survived by her daughters: Susan (Ivan) Sunde, and Caryn (Jesse) Wilson, both of Spicer; sons Charles (Suzanne) of Punta Gorda, FL, and James (Gwen) of Dassel; grandchildren Troy (Mandy) Sunde, Kyle (Stephanie) Sunde, Dayna (Charlie) Johnson, Lesa King, Jesse (Mylie) Wilson, Robb (Tanya) Hallquist, Laura (Jeremy) Radermacher, Jonas (Mackenzie) Hallquist, and Lauren (John) Wagee; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Corinne is further survived by her sister, Marion Patterson of Andover; sister-in-law Jean Platisha of Hibbing; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; parents, Owen and Irene Jones; sisters, Willyan Hallesy and Ann Jennison; sister-in-law Clarice Bostyancic; daughter-in-law Joyce Hallquist; several brothers-in-law; and a nephew and niece.
