David Jerde, age 72, of Delano, passed away after a courageous 6.5-year battle with kidney failure, Thursday, Aug. 20, 2020.
Dave was born to Don and Elsie Jerde Aug. 4, 1948. He was the seventh of 11 boys. Dave attended Delano and Watertown schools, and graduated in 1966.
He served in the Army from 1968 to 1970 in Vietnam, earning two purple hearts and a bronze star.
Dave worked at Herc-U-Lift for 34 years, retiring in 2010.
Dave and his wife, Debbi, enjoyed taking their Warrior boat out fishing on Lake Osakis. He also enjoyed doing yardwork at their place in Maple Plain, while Debbi worked in her veggie and flower gardens.
Dave and Debbi moved to a one-level townhouse in Delano, due to Dave’s health issues. He enjoyed taking long drives around the countryside. He also enjoyed taking his scooter for drives on the many paths Delano has to offer, meeting new people, and running into old friends.
Dave is survived by his wife, Debbi, of 36 years; son, Randy Nelson and wife, Sondra; grandchildren, Hailey and Cole Nelson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Russell and Barb, Marvin and Joan, Gilbert and Judy, Joe and Ellen, Jimmy and Gail, Norman and Kathy, Yvonne, and Pauline; brother-in-law and wife, Dan Fertig and Carol; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by parents, Don and Elsie; brothers, Howard, Loren, Clifford, and Curtis.
Internment will take place at Delano Public Cemetery, by Debbi’s daughter, Shannon. Memorials are preferred to the Kidney Foundation.
Arrangements are by the Iten Funeral Home in Delano.
