Byron P. Johnson, 76

Byron Paul Johnson, age 76, of Cokato, passed away Thursday, Nov. 12, 2020, at the Cokato Manor.

Byron was born in Madison, SD. At the age of 1, Byron moved with his family to Cokato.

He graduated from Cokato High School in 1962, where he is remembered as “Mr. Touchdown.” Byron continued his education at St. Cloud State University.

Byron left college to serve in the United States Army as a military policeman (MP), stationed in Germany from 1965 to 1967, before returning to St. Cloud State to finish his degree in geography.

After college, Byron went to work in senior retail management for W.T. Grant in Milwaukee, WI and later Erickson Holiday Company in Minnesota, until retirement.

Byron always called Cokato home.He grew up as a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato. He lived in faith and God’s word.

Byron was a loving and dedicated son, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed Minnesota sports, camping, biking, photography, and travel. On road trips he would stop to observe every historical marker along the way.

Byron is survived by his brothers, David Johnson, and Dean Johnson; daughter, Kelly Johnson; son, Aaron Johnson; and two grandchildren, Kimberly and Dylan.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Samantha Johnson; and parents, Howard and Florentine Johnson.
