Robert George Kegler, age 83, of Winsted, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2020.
A visitation will take place Saturday, Dec. 19 from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. Due to COVID precautions, a private family memorial service will take place after the visitation.
Due to today’s circumstances with COVID-19, social distancing and masks are required, and all are asked to refrain from hugging Bob’s family.
The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted is serving the family.
Bob was born Nov. 6, 1937, the son of Albert and Anna (Zimmerman) Kegler.
Bob enjoyed careers installing wallpaper, decorating for weddings, and caretaking the laundromat in Winsted.
Bob and his brother, Steve, opened Kegs’ Bar in Winsted. The bar was a great place for everyone to be, and was well-known for their New Year’s Eve parties. Bob helped decorate Winstock floats and volunteered hanging banners at Winstock.
Bob proudly served in the US Army, and was a member of the Winsted American Legion Post 407.
He enjoyed traveling, going to the casino with his brother, Steve, and baking. He was a wonderful artist with paints and charcoal, even winning awards for his work.
Family brought great enjoyment to Bob, he treated all his nieces and nephews like they were his own children.
Bob was one of the most generous and caring individuals one would meet. He was a social man, who was friendly to all. He will be remembered for his wonderful barreling laugh and kind heart.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Anna Kegler; brothers, Harold (Ellie) Kegler, Ray Kegler; sister, Eileen (Leo) Wright; sister-in-law, Sue Kegler; and niece, Linda Drew.
He is survived by his brothers, Leon Kegler and Steven Kegler; many loving nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; other family and friends; and beloved Matt the cat.
