Marlys M. Klaustermeier Obituary – 3/1/2020


Marlys Mae (Schuette) Klaustermeier, age 85, of Lester Prairie, passed away Sunday, March 1, 2020, at her home.

She was born Aug. 31, 1934, at her home in Penn Township, McLeod County, the daughter of Alfred and Annette (Groth) Schuette. Marlys was baptized as an infant Sept. 16, 1934, by the Rev. Henry Weertz; and was confirmed in her faith as a youth May 16, 1948, by the Rev. Gerhard Schmidt, both at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton.

Marlys received her education in Brownton, graduating with the Brownton High School class of 1952.

She was united in marriage to Hillard Herman Klaustermeier May 15, 1957, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Brownton. Marlys and Hillard made their home on their farm in Lester Prairie. Their marriage was blessed with two sons, John and Paul. Marlys and Hillard shared over 62 years of marriage.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Marlys helped on their farm until 2009, when she retired. She also worked at Montgomery Ward in New Ulm, as the manager of the catalog department.

Marlys was an active member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. She was also a member of the Home Extension Group, and the Lester Prairie American Legion Auxiliary Post #95 for over 50 years.

She enjoyed sewing, making pottery, and gardening. Marlys loved watching “Wheel of Fortune” and the Minnesota Twins. She treasured the time spent with her friends and family, especially her grandchildren, who were so important to her.

Marlys is survived by her husband, Hillard Klaustermeier of Lester Prairie; sons, John Klaustermeier and his wife, Lynn, of Odenville, AL; and Paul “Shorty” Klaustermeier of Lester Prairie; grandchildren Kayleigh Mailhes and her husband, Justin; Steven “Chase” Klaustermeier and his wife, Julie, and Blake Klaustermeier and his wife, Margaret “Maggie;” and great-grandchildren James Mailhes, Wray Mailhes, and John Charles “Charlie” Klaustermeier.

She is further survived by brothers Grant Schuette and his wife, Bonita, of Brownton, and Gary Schuette and his wife, Joyce, of Walker; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Marlys was preceded in death by her parents, Alfred and Annette Schuette; and a sister, LaVonne Draeger and her husband, Raphael.

A memorial service took place Monday, March 9 at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, followed by interment at the church cemetery. The Rev. Eric Nelson officiated at the service, and Lynn Mueller was the organist. Soloist Michael Wendolek performed “In The Garden.” Congregational hymns were “The Lord Is My Shepherd,” and “What A Friend We Have In Jesus.”

Brenda Grochow was the urn bearer.

Honorary urn bearers were David Bahr, Jeff Schuette, Mark Schuette, Kayleigh Mailhes, Justin Mailhes, Steven Klaustermeier, Julie Klaustermeier, Blake Klaustermeier, and Margaret Klaustermeier.
