Jane Martin, 82

Jane Helen (Buhlmann) Martin, age 82, of Plato, passed away Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at GlenFields Living with Care in Glencoe.

Jane Martin was born Sept. 12, 1937, in Aitkin, the daughter of Hans and Laverna (Emch) Buhlmann. Jane was baptized as an infant Dec. 25, 1937, and later confirmed in her faith in 1951, both at St. John’s Church in Aitkin. She received her education in Aitkin, graduating with the Aitkin High School class of 1955. Jane furthered her education by attending Minneapolis Lab and X-Ray Technical School.

On Aug. 23, 1958, Jane was united in marriage to Roger Martin at St. John’s Church in Aitkin. Jane and Roger made their home in rural Plato. Their marriage was blessed with two children, Ronald and Ramona. Jane and Roger shared over 61 years of marriage.

In addition to being a loving wife, mother, and homemaker, Jane helped milking cows on the family farm. She also worked at the Glencoe Clinic as a lab/x-ray technician for 30 years, and at Starkey Labs in Glencoe. Jane then continued her education, received her CNA license, and worked at Glencoe Nursing Home until her retirement at age 67.

She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. As her ministry to the church, she proudly served as a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir.

Jane loved taking care of others and was a practical joker, always keeping everyone laughing. She enjoyed taking care of all of the farm animals, including the hens, chickens, and dogs. Jane crotcheted afghans for her three grandchildren, and also enjoyed having fun and playing jokes on them. She cherished the time spent with her family and friends.

Jane is survived by her husband, Roger Martin of Plato; daughter, Ramona “Mona” Dobrava of Plato; daughter-in-law, Eileen Horton and her husband, Keith, of Glencoe; grandchildren, Missy Schlechter and her husband, Jamie, Dick Dobrava Jr. and his significant other, Dawn, Derrick Dobrava and his significant other, Andy, Jesse Dobrava and his significant other, Megan, Jacob Dobrava and his fiancé, Mitch, Brandon Horton and his wife, Rachel, Brianna Horton; great-grandchildren, Dylan Schlechter, Madelyn Schlechter, Paige Schlechter, Tylor Schlechter, Erin Horton, William Horton; siblings, Ruth Hauge and her husband, Paul, of Edina, Diane Gehler and her husband, Jerry, of Northfield, Dick Buhlmann and his wife, Betty, of Aitkin, Kurt Buhlmann and his wife, Cathy, of Aitkin; brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Homer Martin of Plato, Bill Martin and his wife, Deb, of Plato; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Jane was preceded in death by her parents, Hans and Laverna Buhlmann; son, Ronald Martin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Jesse and Mildred Martin; son-in-law, Dick Dobrava Sr.; sister, Lucille Buhlmann; sister-in-law, Karen Martin.

A gathering of family and friends took place Wednesday, July 15, 2020, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Johnson-McBride Funeral Chapel in Glencoe.

A graveside service took place Thursday, July 16, 2020 at 11 a.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lester Prairie, with pastor Aaron Holmgren officiating, and soloist Jim Wendling. Honorary urn bearers were Jane’s great-grandchildren Dylan Schlechter, and Madelyn Schlechter.
