Florine M. Osness, 91

Florine “Flo” M. Osness, age 91, of Dassel, died Tuesday, Nov. 17, 2020, at the Augustana Lakeside Health Care Center in Dassel.

Florine “Flo” Mae (Haugan) Osness was born April 8, 1929, in Wilmot, SD to H. E. and Olga (Kronberg) Haugan. She resided with her family for several years in Wilmot, before they moved to Page, ND.

The family moved a couple of times, and finally settled in Benson, MN, where Flo attended school and graduated from the Benson High School in 1947. Flo then went on to the University of Minnesota, where she studied music.

Flo moved to the Dassel-Cokato area, where she was employed at the Cokato Hospital for many years.

She was a talented musician who taught piano lessons to many children over the years. She was the Gethsemane Lutheran Church organist and accompanist for church services, weddings, and funerals.

She loved music, she had a talent and understanding of music. When accompanying a soloist, she could transpose the key to a musical piece on the fly. She was a volunteer at the Dassel Lakeside Health Care Center and played music for the residents.

Flo loved her family with all her heart. She was proud of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

Flo is survived by her children, DeAnn (Adam) Niece of Mounds View, Richard (Cathy) Osness of Dassel; grandchildren, Alicia (Dan) Schroeder, Jacob (Sheana Bakke) Osness, Peter (Elena) Truman-Osness, Sarah (Grant) Burnison, and Dustin Niece; 15 great-grandchildren, and a cousin, Larry Kronberg of Cudahy, WI.

She was preceded in death by her parents, H.E. and Olga Haugan; and maternal and paternal grandparents.

A family funeral service took place Monday, Nov. 23 at 1 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel, with interment at the Dassel Community Cemetery following the service.

There was a visitation from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 22 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel.

The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel was in charge of the arrangements.
