Leonard was born April 28, 1932, in Franklin Township, to Anthony and Elizabeth (Pogreba) Schaust.

A faith-filled Christian man who instilled the importance of faith in his family, Len was a lifelong member of St. Peter Catholic Church in Delano.

He was united in marriage to Maxine Veronica Wurm Aug. 11, 1954, at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Maple Lake; and to this union, six children were blessed.

Len’s favorite things in life revolved around his family and his farm. He possessed true grit and an internal strength that allowed him to face many challenges, right up to his final breath.

Having a sharp wit, he was known to give “one-liners.” Len and Max always had time for a polka or a game of euchre, and they cherished their family and loved having them all together on the farm.

The grandchildren and great-grandchildren were blessings to Len, and he always gave thanks to the Lord for these and all the many blessings bestowed upon himself and his family.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Maxine Schaust Sept. 10, 2019; grandson Payton Schaust; an infant daughter; twin grandsons, Cole and Chase Grams; parents, Anthony and Elizabeth Schaust; brothers Anthony Schaust, Joseph Schaust, Loren Schaust and George Schaust; sisters Matilda Florek, Betty Gabrelcik, and Leona Fake; brothers-in-law John Florek, George Fake, Rich Gabrelcik, Glen Litfin and Bob Farniok; and sisters-in-law Dorothy Schaust and Joan Schaust.

Len is survived by his children: Leonard (Laurie) Schaust Jr., Luann (Dale) Hoese, Gary (Deb) Schaust, Sandy (Rick) Grams, Betty (Charlie) Checkal, and David (Shellie) Schaust; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; a brother, Matt Schaust; sisters Arlene Litfin, and Genevieve Farniok; and sisters-in-law Deloris Schaust, Estelle Schaust, and Lorraine Schaust.
