Beverly Jean Barnaal, age 86, died at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids, Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2021.
A celebration of Jeanne’s life is pending.
Since February, she resided at New Perspectives in New Brighton, after living the past 63 years in Cokato.
“Jeanne” as she preferred to be called, was born Aug. 14, 1935, in Coeur d’Alene, ID, to Robert and Madeline Gage.
She attended Coeur d’Alene public schools, and married Air Force Sgt. Ivan “Barney” Barnaal in Coeur d’Alene April 19, 1953.
When Barney’s service in the Air Force was completed in 1955, they moved to Minneapolis, where he attended Dunwoody Graphic Arts Technical School, and Jeanne stayed home with the children.
When Barney graduated in 1957, they moved to Cokato ,where he had been hired at the Cokato Enterprise.
In 1967, when they purchased the business, she became vice president of TCE Publishing Co., and worked in the newspaper office.
They sold the business in 1985, retired, and spent several winters in Rockport, TX. Jeanne also worked part time, after retirement, at the Marketplace Deli.
Jeanne put her husband and children at the top of her to-do list, but was also a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Cokato, ELC Women’s Auxiliary, ELC Choir, American Legion Post 209 Auxiliary, and a Cub Scout Den Mother. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, shopping, and going to the casino.
She is survived by her children, Rick (Denise); Randy (Paula); Linda Rees (George); grandchildren, Andrew, Adam (Kelly), Ceci, Christopher; and sister, Roberta Manley.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, Thomas Staley.
