John was born Oct. 11, 1945, in Watertown, MN, the son of Donald and Lucille (Campbell) Bickmann.

Uncle John grew up on his parent’s family farm.

John graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1964. He attended St. Cloud State University later for a short period of time.

After college, he worked at Sterner Lighting, and then Sonstegard Foods.

John was in fact, the jack-of-all-trades! He enjoyed history, learning, hunting, trapping, gardening, and craftsmanship. Over the last couple years, he took great pride in his very large and bountiful garden.

He had a tool for just about anything and most were custom made by him.

John was a walking encyclopedia and arguably the smartest man most of us knew. If you needed the most recent news update or weather forecast, you asked John. He had a story for just about everything.

The most important thing to John was family. He loved his siblings, nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and neighbors.

John was always willing to lend a hand with anything, from cutting wood, cutting sod, farming, dirt work, landscaping, homework, gardening, holding a flash light, and even just someone to have a cold one with.

John was there to listen to you and give you advice. He never wanted a nickel; all he wanted was your time and someone to talk to.

We all will miss his quirky personality, bluntness, humbleness, unselfishness, and most of all his company. His heart was made of gold!

He belonged to Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

John is survived by two sisters and a brother: Colleen Bickman and Donald Bickmann both of Howard Lake, and Mary Entinger of Glencoe; nieces and nephews: Chris Bickmann, Pat Bickmann, Jeff Bickmann, Jennifer Bickman, Paul Entinger, Tammy Entinger, Tonya Berg, Jonathan Entinger, and Brittney Entinger; several great nephews and great nieces, including Michael Bickman and Lucille McNeill; his best friend: Mark Horstmann; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents Donald and Lucille Bickmann, his grandparents Franz Bickmann and Frances Bickmann and Paul and Marie Campbell, and by aunts and uncles.
