Edna Mae Ide, 82

Mrs. Edna Mae (Busch) Ide, age 82, of rural Glencoe, passed away Friday, Jan. 22, 2021, at her residence.

A visitation will take place Friday, Jan. 29 from 5 to 8 p.m. at The Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted, with a prayer service at 7:45 p.m. Further visitation will take place Saturday, Jan. 30 one hour prior to services at the church.

Funeral services will take place Saturday, Jan. 30 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie, with interment at St. Peter’s Cemetery.

The Reverend Joshua Arndt will officiate. Vocalist will be James Ide, singing “In the Garden” and “Away in the Manger.” Honorary casket bearers will be Carol (Ide) Louisiana, Carolyn (Selchow) Toenies, and Michele (Bartels) Hove. Casket bearers will be Glenn Selchow, Paul Selchow, Douglas Selchow, Larry Ide, Keith Ide, and Brian Bullert.

Edna Mae (Busch) Ide was born Feb. 14, 1938, in Sibley County, near Belle Plaine, to George C. and Myrtle (Bartels) Busch.

Edna was baptized Feb. 27, 1938, by Reverend P. J. Haupt, and confirmed April 6, 1952, by Reverend O. F. Herder, both at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Belle Plaine. Her confirmation memory verse was Revelation 3:11 “Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.”

Edna attended country school (District #23) for six years. She went on to the Belle Plaine Public School and High School, graduating in 1956. Edna then attended Wartburg College in Waverly, IA for four years, graduating in 1960, with a degree in elementary education.

She taught school for eight years: three years at First Lutheran School, Blue Island, IL; three years at Cross Lutheran School, Pigeon, MI; and two years at the elementary public school at Biwabik, MN.

While teaching in Biwabik, Edna met her husband, Vernon A.H. Ide. They were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church of Belle Plaine Aug. 17, 1968, by the Reverend Vernon D. Bigalk.

She and her husband farmed the Ide homestead near Glencoe, and were faithful members of St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lester Prairie. They were blessed with three children: Teresa, Faye, and Ryan.

For many years, Edna sang in choirs at the schools where she taught, was a member of Ladies Aid, taught Sunday School, and belonged to Home Extension. Edna enjoyed farming with her husband and later, with her son, Ryan.

She also enjoyed gardening, reading, traveling, photography, puzzles, and especially her children and grandchildren.

Edna is survived by children, Teresa (Jeffrey) Brelje of Glencoe, Faye (Curtis II) Anderson of Bemidji, and Ryan (Julie) Ide of Glencoe; five grandchildren, Ariel and Austin Brelje; Curtis III and Rory Anderson; George Ide; a sister, Violet Selchow of Lester Prairie; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Vernon A.H. Ide on Oct. 8, 2005; parents, George and Myrtle Busch; brother-in-law, Wayne Selchow; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ewald and Alma Ide; brothers-in-law, Dennis (Audrey) Ide, Hillard (Dorothy) Ide; and sister-in-law, Verdella (Harold) Bullert.
