Norbert Knott, 97

Norbert Joseph Knott, age 97, of New Germany, MN, passed away Thursday, Dec. 9, 2021, at The Estates at Delano in Delano. 

Norbert Joseph Knott was born Jan. 2,1924, in Carver County, MN. He was the son of Christ and Martha (Sterner) Knott.

Norbert was baptized as an infant and later confirmed in his faith as a youth, both at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

He received his education in Waconia, graduating with the Waconia High School class of 1943. Norbert served his country in the United States Army.

Norbert was united in marriage June 5, 1954, to Orlyn Alice Jorgensen at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

After their marriage, the couple resided in New Germany. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Judy, Debbie, Randy, Jackie.

Norbert and Orlyn celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 1979, later that year, Orlyn passed away.

Norbert was 100% German, and was raised speaking both English and German.

He was a devoted Catholic, and was born and raised on the family farm. Norbert always had a huge garden and everyone was amazed at all of the canning of vegetables and assorted jellies he preserved right up until is 90th birthday. He even had a green thumb with all his flourishing houseplants.

Norbert took pride in making the tallest angel food cake around.

He loved to fish, hunt, play cards, and visit with people; he always had a story to tell.

In later years, he also enjoyed traveling and going to various casinos. He had a passion for life and nothing could ever slow him down.

Norbert was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

Norbert is survived by his loving family; children, Judy Pool and her husband, Keith; Debbie Free and her husband, Randy; Randy Knott and his wife, Jan; grandchildren, Ryan Pool and Stephanie Kerkhoff, Robert and Georgia Pool, Ross Pool, Kelly and Jason Shanks, Kenny and Ashley Free, Corey and Jenna Free, Jennifer and Travis Jolicoeur, Heidi and Jon Noerenberg, Andrew Knott; great-grandchildren, Gavin, Addison and Ellie Pool, Zaiden Pool, Everly and KayLeigh Free, Memphis Free, Madelynn and Aiden Jolicoeur, Riley, Evelyn, and Jaxon Noerenberg; sisters-in-law, Rosalie Knott, Diane Jorgensen; many loving nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Norbert was preceded in death by his parents, Christ and Martha Knott; wife, Orlyn Knott; daughter, Jacquelyn Marie Knott Butcher; siblings, Mary and Frank Richter, Odella and Francis Radtke, Esther Knott, Albert and Mary Kay Knott, Leander Knott, Lawrence Knott; and longtime friend, Theresa Clausen.

A Mass of Christian burial took place Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2021 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation was one hour prior to the service, at the  church.

Clergy officiating,  Father John Haye; organist,  Lavon Kielkucki; musical selections, “How Great Thou Art,” “On Eagle’s Wings,” “Amazing Grace,” “Here I Am Lord;” urn bearers, grandchildren.
