Shirley A. Lantto Obituary – 1/14/2021


Shirley A. Lantto, age 91, of French Lake Township, died Thursday, Jan. 14, 2021, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Shirley Ann Lantto was born Nov. 16, 1929, in French Lake Township to Axel and Thilda (Forsberg) Martinson. She graduated from Annandale High School, Nov. 4, 1950.

Shirley was united in marriage to Matt Lantto in Minneapolis. They lived and raised their family in French Lake, where they owned and operated a farm. In addition to caring for the home and raising her children, Shirley also worked the farm alongside her husband, Matt.

They were members of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church. Shirley enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting, and baking. The joy of her life was her grandchildren.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Matt of Annandale; children, Joyce Lantto of Minneapolis, Patricia Lantto of Hutchinson, Carol Lantto-Adams (Cedric Adams) of St. Paul, Gary (Darlene) Lantto of Annandale, Nancy (Ronald) Rome of Annandale, and Mike Lantto of Annandale; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and sister, Betty (Richard) Nordling of Columbia Heights.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Axel and Thilda Martinson; brother, Glen Martinson; and granddaughter, Robin Robasse.

A walk-through visitation took place from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 19 at Dingmann Funeral Chapel in Annandale. A private funeral service took place at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20 at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in French Lake, with Rev. Delroy Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Riverside Cemetery, French Lake. The funeral was livestreamed.

The casketbearers were Mike, Gary, Eric, Ryan, and Alec Lantto, and Kevin Claflin. Jessica Lantto and Margaret Groop provided the music for the service.
