Eric Westlund Obituary – 10/8/2021


Eric William Westlund, age 49, of Delano, passed away surrounded by his family Friday, Oct. 8, 2021, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, after a seven-month battle with extensive small cell lung cancer.

A gathering of family and friends will take place Friday, Oct. 22, 2021 from 4 to 7 p.m., with a celebration of life sharing at 6:30 p.m. at B’s on the River, 1455 County Road 27 in Watertown. The family asks that you share your favorite memories of Eric and enjoy this time together.

Eric was born Feb. 20, 1972, to Kathy (Wolpern) Meyer and Greg Westlund in New Prague, MN.

Eric grew up in Belle Plaine and graduated from CASA in Carver County.

He was employed by the Belle Plaine Herald for 20+ years. While employed full-time, Eric furthered his education attending night classes, obtaining a degree in computer networking.

He was a founding member in the band, Honey Wagon, as bass player.

He became the neighborhood IT source, assisting friends and family with all their phone, iPad, and computer needs and solving problems.

His passions included Cross Fit, mountain bike riding, building Legos with Peyton, and spending time with his family and friends.

Eric was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ethel and Ferdinand Westlund, Emil and Elaine Wolpern, and step-father Phil Meyer.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jenn (Gustafson), daughter Ashley (Ryan) Blomquist, grandson Peyton, father, Greg (Donna) Westlund, mother, Kathy Meyer, sister Michele (Wade)) Wrightson, brother, Tony (Angela) Westlund, step-sisters Heather (Ben) Nylander, Amanda (Steve) Widdecombe, mother-in-law and father in-law, Carol and Charlie Brown, neices and nephews, Tessa Wrightson, Drew Wrightson, Eagan Westlund, and Mirtnesh Westlund.
