Joanne Fox, 96

Joanne Nelson Fox, 96, of St. Louis Park, MN, left this world peacefully Aug. 19, 2022.

Having lived almost a century, Joanne lived through times that shaped our world. She lived through the depression, World War II, the baby boom, the Korean War, Vietnam, watching the moon landing on TV, the end of the Cold War, 9/11, the middle east wars, and the technology boom with email and Google.

She was born in Cokato, MN, daughter of Edith and Rudolph and sister to Yvonne, Roger, Nola, and Burnelle. “Jojo” remained close to her siblings throughout their lives.

Joanne grew up during the depression, where she developed her character of hard work, love of family, selflessness, kindness, forgiveness, truthfulness, and acceptance of everyone. Those values defined her life.

Joanne graduated as valedictorian of her high school class. She left Cokato for Minneapolis, MN, and enrolled in secretarial school while working at an accounting firm.

She married and raised four children. Then, she went back to part-time work to supplement the family income to build a new home in St. Louis Park. Joanne lived in her dream home for 61 years.

As an empty nester, Joanne was a member of the Women’s Club of Minneapolis, the Swedish Institute, the Red Hats Women’s group, a bible study group, and a women’s investment club. Always a gracious host, Joanne was known for opening her home and preparing lunch for her friends.

Truly her greatest joy was time with her four children and families: celebrating birthdays, holidays, and special events. She was the ‘heart and soul’ of the family.

“Gram” was a remarkable role model for all her children and grandchildren — she was beloved by all who knew her. We will miss our soft-spoken, brilliant, witty, and occasionally stubborn matriarch. Joanne, you will live in our hearts and memories forever.

Surviving Joanne is her children, Lynn Vinke (Jim), John Fox (Louise), James Fox (Lynn), and Joan Fox (Mark Kosieradzki); grandchildren, Kate Solomon (Brandon), Trent Fox, Andrew Fox, Jonathan Fox, Lex Kosieradzki (Lauren), Nik Kosieradzki, and Zoe Kosieradzki (Yosvel); and great-grandchildren, Simon and Annie Solomon.

All in Joanne’s family wish to express our heartfelt thanks to Joanne’s caregivers. With love and compassion, they enabled Joanne to live in her own home until her last breath. Thank you.
