Matt Lantto Obituary – 1/5/2022


Matt A. Lantto, age 93, of French Lake, died Wednesday Jan. 5, 2022, at the St. Cloud Hospital.

Matt Alfred Lantto was born June 1, 1928, in Albion Township to Alex and Hilda (Salmi) Lantto.

He was united in marriage Nov. 19, 1950, to Shirley Martinson in Minneapolis.

They lived and raised their family in French Lake, where they owned and operated a farm. In addition to the farm, Matt was also a Union 563 contractor with Witcher Construction.

He was a member of Our Saviours Lutheran Church in French Lake.

Matt enjoyed hunting, fishing, going for Sunday drives, and woodworking.

He is survived by his children, Joyce Lantto of Minneapolis, Patricia Lantto of Hutchinson, Carol Lantto-Adams (Cedric Adams) of St. Paul, Gary (Darlene) Lantto of Annandale, Nancy (Ronald) Rome of Annandale and Mike Lantto of Annandale; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; parents, Alex and Hilda Lantto; brothers, Elmer, George, Harry, William, Ben, and Robert Lantto; sisters, Emma Ollanketo, Mabel Forare, Mary Sandell, Elsie Lantto, and Anna Josephson; and granddaughter, Robin Robasse.

Public visitation took place Wednesday, Jan. 12, 2022 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale.

A private funeral took place at Our Saviours Lutheran Church in French Lake at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, with Pastor Ralph Erickson officiating.

The casket bearers were Gary, Mike, Alec, and Eric Lantto, Sam Robasse and Spencer LaSota. Margaret Groop and Jessica Lantto will provide the music for the service. Arrangements are entrusted with Dingmann Funeral Care Burial & Cremation Services of Annandale.

The funeral was livestreamed on the funeral home website. The family requested that attendees of the visitation and funeral wear a mask.
