Verna Marcella (Kumpula) Anderson, 93, of Dassel, MN, died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2023, at the Meeker Manor in Litchfield, MN.
A memorial service took place Monday, Sept. 11, 2023, at 1 p.m. at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel. Rev. Janine Olson officiated the service.
The interment of the urn took place at the Cokato Finnish Cemetery in rural Cokato, MN, following the service.
There was a time to gather with the family one hour prior to the service Monday at the Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel.
The Johnson Funeral Home in Dassel is in charge of the memorial service arrangements.
Verna Marcella (Kumpula) Anderson, the daughter of Frank and Helmi (Brandstrom) Kumpula, was born Feb. 17, 1930, in Kingston, MN.
Verna was baptized and later confirmed in the Christian faith, and she was presently a faithful member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Dassel.
Verna grew up north of Kingston and attended country school before graduating from the Dassel High School.
Verna was united in marriage April 28, 1951, to Harold Henry Anderson. Together, they made their home in the Lake Jennie area. They had three children: Sheila, Steven, and Bryan.
Verna was employed as a bank teller at the Dassel State Bank for numerous years.
Verna loved to sew, do crossword puzzles, mow the lawn, and take care of her yard. Her children and grandchildren were the bright spots of her life. She enjoyed spending time with friends and family over holidays and special events.
Her faith was important to her, and she could often be found at bible study and ladies’ circle. She will be missed deeply by her family and her many friends.
She is survived by her children, Sheila Steffen of Dassel and Bryan (Dezra) Anderson of Fayetteville, PA; a daughter-in-law, Connie Anderson of Morris, MN; six grandchildren, Dean Anderson and Scott Anderson, Ryan Anderson, Justin Anderson, Sarah Schultz, and Marisa Knutson; eight great-grandchildren, Brayden Carlson, Aaden Schultz, Wyatt Schultz, Gage Schultz, Caleb Schultz, and Damien Warner, and Skott Anderson and Abigail Anderson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; son, Steven Anderson; parents, Frank and Helmi Kumpula; brother, Marvin Kumpula; and a son-in-law, Donald Steffen.
