Jan was born July 13, 1951, the 11th of 14 children born to Martin and Vivian (Brown) Trosin in Lakefield, MN.
She was baptized in the Lutheran faith in August of 1951 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Dunnell, MN.
Jan graduated from Sherburn High School in 1969.
Jan married Richard (Dick) Erdmann April 25, 1974, in Norfolk, VA. Jan and Dick were blessed with a beautiful, loving daughter named Angie in October of 1976.
Jan and Dick met at Quonset Point, RI, where Dick was stationed in the Navy. He was transferred to Millington, TN, and then to Norfolk, where they were married.
From there, they were stationed in Alameda, CA; Aurora, CO; and San Diego, CA, before they transitioned to civilian life in 1978 and moved back to Minnesota to live and raise Angie.
Jan worked many jobs, from a nurse’s aide, to manufacturing, to a bank teller, but her primary vocation was always being the best mother to her daughter and grandmother to her two wonderful grandchildren, Dylan and Julia.
She was an excellent cook and decorator who could always tweak a recipe to make it just a little more flavorful and who had an innate ability to visualize and coordinate any interior room or exterior surrounding.
Jan was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed the simple things in life; her family, relatives, friends, a good meal, a comfortable home, an occasional trip to the casino, cheering on the Twins and Vikings, and attending her grandchildren’s events.
She had a beautiful smile and a contagious laugh. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Jan was preceded in death by her father and mother, Martin and Vivian (Brown) Trosin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Edwin (Ed) and Julia (Shelstad) Erdmann; siblings, Marion Thompson, Donald and Charlene Trosin, Wilbert, Eugene (Gene), Esther, Robert (Rob), Charlotte (Ann) Studer, and Kenneth (Kenny); and brothers-in-law, Vernon Bretzman, Charles (Chuck) Erdmann, and Dennis (Denny) Nelson.
Jan is survived by her loving family: husband of 49 years, Dick of Waconia; daughter, Angie and Andy Maetzold and their children, Dylan and Julia, of Mayer, MN; her siblings, Carol Bretzman of Lakefield, Paul (Butch) and Ruth Trosin of Estherville, IA, Linda and Gene Takkunen of Chanhassen, MN, Gary and Diane Trosin of Chanhassen, Larry and Pam Trosin of Rossie, IA; brother-in-law, James (Jim) and Aggie Erdmann of Madison, MN; and sisters-in-law, Lila Erdmann of Melrose, MN, Kathy Nelson of Louisburg, MN, Linda and Bill Young of Madison, and Pam and Kenneth (Kenny) Fernholz of Madison.
See you later, alligator.
