Rita Ann Laxen, 91, of rural Winsted, MN, passed away Wednesday evening, May 17, 2023, at her residence.
She was born May 14, 1932 in Winsted Township, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Fiecke) Sterner.
Rita Ann Sterner and Leo A. Laxen were joined in holy marriage Oct. 6, 1951, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. God blessed their marriage with 11 children.
Rita was a homemaker and was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, canning, her flowers, watching birds, playing cards, puzzles, and embroidering.
Rita was an awesome cook. She also enjoyed watching game shows and Westerns. She was very sharp about politics.
She was a faithful lifetime member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Rita prayed the rosary daily and watched Mass on TV every Sunday.
She is survived by her loving children, Michael Laxen (Linda), Donald (Cindy) Laxen, Carol (Gerry) Bisping, Gerald (Sharon) Laxen, Linda (Eugene) Handt, Kevin Laxen, Luanne (James) Arlt, Jeannette (Edward) Eastling, Gregory Laxen, Joann Scherping, and Jeff Laxen; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Florian, Edward, and Eugene Sterner and Annette Grzeskowiak; as well as many other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo A. Laxen; her parents; a son-in-law, Terry Scherping; grandson, Jamie Sides; and siblings, Andrew, Margaret, Clement, Regina, Lucille, Marian, Mary, Agatha, and Cletus.
A Mass of Christian burial for Rita Ann Laxen took place Monday, May 22, 2023, at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted. Father Matthew Wiering was the celebrant.
Interment followed at Holy Trinity Cemetery.
A visitation took place Sunday, May 21 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chilson Funeral Home in Winsted. A prayer service took place at 6:30 p.m. Further visitation took place at the funeral home Monday morning, May 22, from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.
Casket bearers were her six sons.
