John “Jack” Richard Schable, Sr., 89, of Winsted, MN, formerly of Minneapolis, MN, passed away March 12, 2023, at the VA Home.

He was born Jan. 8, 1934, in Minneapolis to John F. and Gertrude C. (Lucas) Schable.

He grew up in south Minneapolis and graduated from DeLaSalle High School with the class of 1952.

Not long after high school, he enlisted to serve in the United States Air Force. He was inducted Jan. 15, 1953, and proudly served until his honorable discharge Jan. 14, 1957.

Jack was joined in marriage to Jane Greene in 1958.

After living in the cities most of their lives, the two decided to move out to the small farm town of Winsted following Jack’s retirement. They fell in love with the close-knit community, and made it their home the last 20 years.

Jack was a sports enthusiast, and he especially enjoyed the Vikings and watching baseball. His great storytelling and sense of humor was unmatched.

Jack was kind, always helpful, and known for his generous heart. He was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Jack is preceded in death by his wife, Jane; great-granddaughter, Emma; brother, Dick; and his parents.

He is survived by his son, John; daughter, Mary Sletton; grandchildren, Angie, Maria, Kaitlyn, Kassidy, and McKenzie; several great-grandchildren; sister, Sherry Shable; and many other relatives and friends.

A Mass of Christian burial will take place Friday, March 17, 2023, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior, both at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Winsted.

Interment with military honors will take place at Holy Trinity Cemetery following the Mass.
