Earl James Stoll, 75, of Howard Lake, MN, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family Friday, May 5, 2023.
He was born March 22, 1948, in Watertown, MN, to Willis and Bernadette Stoll.
He was baptized June 29, 1948, and later confirmed April 7, 1963, at St. James Lutheran Church in Howard Lake.
He attended St. James Parochial School and graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1967.
With a deep commitment to his country, Earl served in the US Army and in the Vietnam War during 1968 to 1969.
Earl was united in marriage to the love of his life, Darlene Marie Hayes, at St. James Lutheran Church Oct. 16, 1976. Together, they raised three daughters: Debbie, Danielle, and Denise.
They helped him live the most independent life possible, and they were there for all of his daily needs. After being diagnosed with cancer, he settled into a quiet routine that suited him well.
Earl took every opportunity to spend time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed seeing his grandkids off on their first day of school, attending baseball practices and games, and watching gymnastics (or as he would like to call it, “jumpy class”). Anything Papa could give them a ride on he would, from lawnmowers to four-wheelers to golf carts to his knee.
Some of his favorite hobbies included going for rides in his truck, thrifting, and doing word finds. He had a creative side and a knack for woodworking projects. His girls could show him any picture and he could make it.
He enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings, especially when they played the Green Bay Packers, since it was a house divided. He was always up for an adventure.
Earl is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Stoll; daughters, Debbie (Brett) Gilbert, Danielle (Chase) Noethe, and Denise (Mason) Shaw; grandchildren, Vayda Gilbert, Riley and Brayden Noethe, and Colton and Noah Shaw; siblings, Joe (Donna) Stoll, Jane (Bill) Goepferd, Shirley (Rick) Schueble, and Jerome (Denise) Stoll; brothers-in-law, Larry (Jo) Hayes, Tim (Donetta) Hayes, and Jeff Hayes; aunt, Grace Stoll; nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and neighbors.
Earl was a husband, father, brother, son, friend, and proud papa.
Visitation will take place at the Swanson-Peterson Funeral Home in Howard Lake Saturday, May 13, 2023, at 10 a.m., with a service at 11 a.m. with military honors.
A luncheon and celebration of life will follow at the Howard Lake American Legion, starting at 1 p.m. Private burial to be determined at a later date.
