Amanda Suedbeck, 44

Amanda Leigh Suedbeck, 44, of Houston, TX, lost her courageous fight with breast cancer Friday, Oct. 27, 2023.

Amanda was born Aug. 18, 1979, to Charlie and Gaylene Suedbeck in Slayton, MN.

In 1984, Amanda’s family moved from Slayton to Lester Prairie, MN, where she graduated from Lester Prairie High School in 1997. While in high school, she participated in volleyball, basketball, and softball. She was also a member of the National Honor Society.

After high school, Amanda attended Minnesota State University, Mankato, MN. She graduated with her bachelor of science degree in 2003.

Amanda’s love was for teaching. After graduating, she wanted a change of scenery.  This brought her to Houston, TX. Fortunately for Houston, she decided this felt like her new home.

In August of 2003, she was offered a job at Parker Intermediate School. Amanda taught at Parker for 15 years.

In August of 2018, she moved to Lewis Middle School. Although Amanda was hired as an English teacher, she spent most of her time teaching math.

In Amanda’s spare time, she enjoyed hanging out with friends, playing games, and putting puzzles together. She also loved talking on the phone with her Minnesota family, especially her beloved nieces.

Amanda is survived by her father, Charlie (Bonnie) Suedbeck of Annandale, MN; mother, Gaylene Suedbeck of Mesa, AZ; sister, Lesley Peterson of Lilydale, MN; and her beloved nieces, Kendra and Katie Peterson. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and her Texas “family.”

She was preceded in death by her brother, Chad Suedbeck; paternal grandparents, Fritz and Charlotte Suedbeck; maternal grandparents, Bob and Pat Wagley; and uncle, John Wagley.

Amanda’s celebration of life will take place at the Grain Exchange in Slayton Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023, from 2 to 4 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made in Amanda’s honor to “METAvivor, metastic breast cancer research, support, and awareness.”
