Ronald Uter, 85

Ronald Edward Uter, 85, of Waverly, MN, passed away Friday, March 31, 2023, at the Good Samaritan Society of Howard Lake.

He was born Sept. 16, 1937, in Marysville Township, MN. He grew up on the family farm north of Waverly.

Ron graduated from Howard Lake High School in 1955. He furthered his education at the University of Minnesota School of Agriculture in St. Paul, which led him to an opportunity to be an exchange student in Sweden for one year. He returned from Sweden and joined the Army Reserves.

Ron met Kay Rachel at a dance at the Maple Lake Pavilion.

In October of 1963, Ronald was joined in marriage to Katherine, and together they raised their three children on the farm, where they resided until his passing.

It was on this farm that Ron developed a fine herd of cows.  Many of his cattle were registered Holsteins, and the farm was known as Merryville Farm.

Ron was a devoted husband, father, and farmer. He was a lifetime member of Zion Lutheran Church, and was baptized and confirmed at Swedesburg Lutheran Church in Marysville Township.

He was a member of the Lake Region Co-op Board, Wright County Extension Committee, Western Oil Transport Co-op, Marysville Township Board, and Wright - Hennepin Holstein Association.

Ron was known for his love of spending time with his family on the farm. He was a longtime 4-H Dairy Project leader, and he enjoyed helping the children to train and groom their 4-H dairy cattle.

While not farming, he was an avid Gopher sports fan, regularly attending home football games. He was also an avid Twins fan.

Ron and Kay loved camping at Minnesota state parks, taking the grandchildren whenever they could. Ron was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He was delighted anytime he was able to attend a grandchild’s sporting event, or hold a great-grandchild.

Ronald is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Katherine of Waverly; his daughter, Michelle (Mike) Schwartz of New Ulm, MN; his sons, William (Vicki) Uter and Steven (LoriLynn) Uter, all of Waverly; 12 grandchildren, Meghan (Josh) Laffen, Joseph (Ellen) Uter, Katelyn (Derek) Skovbroten, Michael (Megan) Uter, Mackenzie (Zack) Hegseth, Jack (Kathleen) Schwartz, Jessica Uter, Zachary (Jordyn) Uter, Nicholas Uter, Cassandra Dick, Meghan Zwak, and Sophia Zwak; 11 great-grandchildren; his sister, Thyra Russell of Davis, CA; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Ellen; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Bill and Eleanor Rachel; and brothers-in-law, Pat Rachel and Warren Russell.
