First Community Bank offers convenience and care

By Starrla Cray, Staff Writer

For nearly a century, saving and spending has been hassle-free at First Community Bank (FCB) Lester Prairie, located at 500 Central Ave.

“We were chartered in 1913, so next year, we’re going to celebrate our 100-year anniversary,” said Douglas, who serves as CEO/president.

Douglas and his wife, Sheila, have owned FCB Lester Prairie since 2000. Clients may also recognize Executive Vice President Dale Mensing and Vice President Matt Schuldt.

“We try to serve the community the best we know how,” said Sheila, human resources officer/assistant vice president. “Our services are personalized, and customers don’t have to go though five different numbers to talk to a person.”

Half of the bank’s existence has been tied to the Jilek name – starting with Douglas’s father, Loren Jilek, who became an employee in 1963. Loren and his wife, Miriam, owned the bank from 1969 to 2000.

Like his father, Douglas had an interest in the financial world. After graduating from St. Thomas University, Douglas gained five years of experience at US Bank. Then, in 1990, he returned to Lester Prairie and joined the family business.

Sheila has been at FCB Lester Prairie since 2000, but she also has a biology degree and used to be a lab technician at Hennepin County Medical Center.

Douglas and Sheila both enjoy being part of the Lester Prairie community, and getting to know their clients on a first-name basis.

“We try to be active in local organizations, either monetarily or by serving on committees,” Douglas said.

FCB Lester Prairie also assists local businesses. It recently became a Small Business Administration (SBA) lender, which helps people finance new companies and expansion projects.

Whether it’s starting a career, planning for college, or saving for retirement, FCB Lester Prairie has services for every stage of life. Fixed-rate mortgages, IRA accounts, Certificates of Deposit (CDs), checking accounts, and online banking are a few of the many ways FCB is ready to assist.

FCB Lester Prairie also offers 24-hour depository, direct deposit, notary service, 24-hour telephone banking, and banking by mail.
