Prairie Gift Shop holiday open house this weekend

By Starrla Cray, Staff Writer

Let the Prairie Gift Shop in Lester Prairie take the stress out of gift-giving, decorating, and entertaining this holiday season.

“We have a broad selection, and people don’t have to drive miles away,” employee Jill Duncan said. “Whether you want to spend a lot or a little, it’s all here.”

The Prairie Gift Shop’s annual holiday open house will take place Friday through Sunday, Nov. 9-11. This event is a relaxing opportunity to browse for gift ideas while listening to Christmas music and sampling treats.

“We focus on useful gifts, like lotions, cozy warm slippers, and scarves,” said Judy Angvall, who co-owns the Prairie Gift Shop and Angvall Hardware & Mercantile with her husband, Eric.

Fashionable scarves and accessories, gourmet salsas, children’s books, greeting cards, and delicious chocolate from around the world are just a few of the items people love to give (and receive) from the Prairie Gift Shop.

Decorating for the holidays is also made easy, with brightly colored kitchen supplies, quality table linens, Nativity scenes, Christmas ornaments, and more.

Last year, one of the best-selling gifts was the “redneck wine glass,” which looks like a Mason jar attached to a wine glass stem.

“This truly is the hottest item,” Judy said, adding that, this year, the store will also have red Solo cup wine glasses.

Another popular attraction is Ol’ West Barbecue Sauce, which is made in South Dakota.

“Some customers buy a case at a time. They come in here with signs of withdrawal,” Duncan laughed.

Celebrating Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays, anniversaries, weddings, and other special occasions is simple with a little help from the Prairie Gift Shop.

“We have great gift ideas for everyone on your list,” Judy said.

Store hours are Mondays through Fridays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sundays from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
