Tentative opening dates announced for many 1998 Minnesota
hunting seasons
Opening dates for many of the 1998 Minnesota hunting seasons
were announced this week by Department of Natural Resources Commissioner
Rod Sando. The dates are being announced now for the benefit of those who
must establish vacation or hunting plans well in advance. Although these
dates are tentative, pending final approval in June, Sando said it is unlikely
they will change.
SMALL GAME
- General small game, including grouse, gray partridge,
rabbits and squirrel; Sept. 19 Pheasant; Oct. 10
- Crow; July 1
- Rails, snipe; Sept. 1
- Woodcock; Sept. 19
- Spring wild turkey (first season); April 15
- Fall wild turkey (first season); Oct. 14
BIG GAME
- Bear; Sept. 1
- Deer - archery; Sept. 19
- Deer - firearms; Nov. 7
- Deer - muzzleloader; Nov. 28
- Moose - northeast zone; Oct. 3
- Moose - northwest zone; To be announced
FURBEARERS
- Fox, raccoon; open continuously
- Mink, muskrat, beaver, otter - north zone; Oct. 24
- Mink, muskrat, beaver, otter - south zone; Oct. 31
- Fisher, marten, bobcat; Nov. 28
WATERFOWL
- Early Canada goose; Sept. 5
- General duck and goose; Oct. 3 (tentative )
Additional details on season lengths, quotas and bag limits
will be announced in summer.
